fishing fools

We went to Roosevelt Lake yesterday. We had a great time! The weather was perfect, not too hot and not too chilly (except when we went really fast which is what the boys were begging to do most of the day. The boys tried fishing a couple of different spots but didn't catch anything. It didn't seem to bother them, though. They were more interested in the fish finder and took turns telling each other when they saw a fish and how deep the water was. Colby tried a couple of casts but every time Beau saw a pole, he thought it was for him. I must say, Colby is a great father. All three of the boys kept hounding him to fix their lines. And he did, all at the same time. I love springtime in the desert. Seeing the side of a green and yellow hill because of all the wildflowers that have bloomed. It was a perfect day. No tickets (we did get three tickets all on one day the last time we went to the lake), no meltdowns from the boys, just good times.

Beau thought whenever Colby was in the driver seat, he needed to be there also.

Blue thoroughly enjoyed going super fast while sipping a soda.

Reed crawled into a sleeping bag when we were flying and stayed snug as a bug in a rug.
.
I was not allowed over by the boys while they were fishing, this was per Beau's request. Every time I would go on that side of the boat, he would give a crusty look but refused to look at me.

This picture doesn't do justice to the amazing surroundings.
I got my first driving lesson on a boat. And I didn't do too shabby, if I say so myself. But I don't think I'll be pulling any wake boarders or skiers anytime soon.

love thy enemy

Reed is pretty good at using big words in the right context. This morning, though, during prayers, he asked to bless President Monson and his opponents. I'm not sure if he meant apostles or counselors. He used to say- bless President Monson and his helpers. His prayer was so heartfelt that I didn't want to correct him, besides we're supposed to pray for our enemies also, right?!

birthday boy

I don't know what happened this weekend but for some reason I had convinced myself that Blue's birthday was on Saturday, when in reality it is today. It might have been because Easter was the day before or after his birthday (I kept forgetting) and Beau's birthday is on the 22nd (of June) and Blue's is the 24th. I don't know. But it worked out for the better anyway because we were down in the valley and celebrated with family. Blue wanted cake for breakfast but not his birthday cake. Basically he was tricking us into getting him two cakes for his birthday. He is quite the charmer! He has a personality that makes him so lovable, and love him we do!

spring fever

After being cooped up all winter long, my boys were so pleased to be able to play outside this week without having to bundle up. I guess out of habit, they wanted to go outside today and play, only problem was... IT WAS SNOWING! They didn't care, they went ahead and bundled up to brave the freezing conditions. Poor guys, what does it take to get some spring weather for spring break?

The wind was blowing the snow sideways. When they came inside, the snow was stuck to everything, their pants, their backpacks, their hoods, and even Reed's hair and eyebrows. Looks like we will have to head down to the valley for some pleasant weather during spring break.

pajama day

Today was pajama day at Reed's school. Now, usually he doesn't want to participate in spirit week, if he does, it is very conservatively. For example, on crazy hair day I tried giving him a mohawk and he wanted nothing to do with that. I ended up just combing it all straight down his forehead and then spiking the very ends (I know, what a crazy kid!). So I was shocked this morning when he said he wanted to wear his pajamas to school. I suggested he wear some sweatpants and one of his pj shirts. Oh, no, I told me that he wanted to wear to school what he wears to bed... his undies and a big t-shirt. I didn't think this would go over too well with his teacher, so again I tried to convince him to wear his sweatpants. There would be no persuading him. Finally, I compromised by letting him wear jeans and a t-shirt, then he could put his big night shirt over his clothes. He decided to wear his big t-shirt under his regular shirt. He looked quite comical but was very pleased with himself. I only wish I took a picture of him this morning, but I never seem to have enough time in the morning to do anything but try to get out the door on time!

it's a comin'

Warm weather is on it's way! Today we hit 60 degrees, maybe even warmer! I am so excited because apparently this has been the worst (best if you ask Colby) winter here in eleven years. Of course, it had to be my first winter up here. Anyway, I am so glad that I can send my boys outside to play and not have to bundle them up like marshmallows. Blue played outside most of the day yesterday and practically most of the day today. He might have pushed it a little bit too much because tonight he fell asleep while trying to eat his dinner. Poor kid! He just couldn't keep his eyes open.
Beau is also very pleased about being able to go outside. This afternoon while I was fixing dinner, I let him go in our backyard. We don't have a fence yet so I just kept the back door open and would check on him occasionally. Apparently, I wasn't checking enough because about 20 minutes after playing nicely by the back door, he disappeared. I called his name and checked around the backyard with no luck. I went around to the front and saw that he had already made it down our driveway (which is kinda steep if you are only two years old), across the street, and was making his way up the front step of our neighbor's house! That stinker! I am so glad that he was okay. We live on the corner and there is no way a car would have been able to stop in time if he was still in the road when they came around the corner. I guess no more unsupervised outside playtime until we get a back fence.

congrats to Chea

I discovered the exciting news from Lance's blog. So if you already read this, go ahead and read it again. Chea's photography was published on the inside cover of this week's edition of the LDS Church News- the message of inspiration. The picture is of my cousin Chad Arnett, currently serving in Germany. I have to agree... the picture says a thousand words of inspiration for missionary work. I am so happy for and proud of her! Oh, ya, check out her new website.

running out of gas

This afternoon the weather was actually pleasant, you know, when it hits the 50 degree mark. So Colby decided to pull out the boys bicycles. After a trip to Wal-Mart (I did not go, you know how I feel about our Wal-Mart) for new bike tubes, they were good to go. Blue got his first bicycle with training wheels for Christmas and this is the first time he has tried to ride outside (he has scooted around on it inside the house for the last two months). Teaching Blue how to peddle on his bike has been more difficult than I thought. We give him a good push and tell him to start pedalling in a circle because at first he was just pushing his feet back and forth and kept hitting the brakes every other push. So once we established the circle motion, he was having trouble keeping the momentum going. He kept claiming that his bike was running out of gas. He always is quick to find a good excuse not to strain himself too much, and apparently riding a bike is no different.

rub-a-dub-dub

My boys are thoroughly enjoying the jacuzzi tub in our master bathroom. They beg to bathe in it. Not only do they beg to bathe in it, but Reed and Blue beg to turn on the jets. Two reasons why I tell them no: Number one, it takes so much water to fill it up in order for the jets to come on, and number two, I think Beau would be petrified of them(all three of them usually take a bath together). One night, I put Beau to bed and let Reed and Blue turn on the jets. They were thrilled! The water wasn't quite high enough, so it started spitting out like a fire hydrant. But as you can see by their faces, that was even cooler than just bubbles.

On a side note: for the last two weeks Beau refuses to take a bath. Whenever I put him in the water, he won't sit down. He just stands there and screams at the top of his lungs while I pour water over his head and lather him up. Help! I'm not sure what is worse...his screaming or him smelling like a bum crack.
